There's a ticket out of the trenches and into the West End of London for Blackadder if he can successfully organise a concert party to raise morale back home.
After trying to switch George with "Bob" - whom Melchett considers the least convincing female impersonator he's ever seen - Blackadder is forced to tell Melchett that his leading lady was killed while dancing home from the ball.
Blackadder is left with no show, and the grim prospect of screening Charlie Chaplin films twice a day for the rest of the war.
